The world is experiencing a world-wide health crisis which many of us have not been involved with during our lifetime. Over 125,000 cases of COVID-19 have been reported throughout the world and now President Trump has declared a national emergency to combat this situation. Previously Governor Newsom declared California to be in a “state of emergency” and the state has established a policy recommending canceling, postponing or rescheduling gatherings of 250 or more individuals and limit gatherings to 10 for those at higher risk. The Coronavirus is a higher risk to adults over 60 years of age and those who may have pre-existing medical conditions.
Grand President James King is urging that that all NSGW and Parlor activities of 10 or more people be postponed, rescheduled, and even cancelled. For Grand Parlor activities such as the April Board of Grand Officer meeting, landmark dedications, and new member initiations, further information will be forthcoming as we continue to monitor the progress of this situation. As we have many elderly Brothers, we need to take the necessary precautions to ensure their safety, the safety of their families’, and those they may contact.
Therefore, Grand President King is asking all NSGW members to take precautions by washing your hands, limiting physical contact with others, cover a cough or sneeze, don’t touch, keep your distance, and even stay home. The Center for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) website has more information on taking the necessary precautions https://www.cdc.gov/.
The concerns around the COVID-19 virus are real and the immediate future of the course of this virus remains unknown. Our priority and responsibility is the safety, health and well-being of all Native Sons, their families, and our communities. We apologize for any inconvenience, but are confident all Brothers will understand this decision. We will keep you apprised of any future plans and changes during this health crisis we are all facing.
In Friendship, Loyalty and Charity,
James P. King
